Day of the Dackel 2023
The 3rd annual Day of the Dackel is on again with its inaugural dachshund races being introduced this year. A fun, family, community event for dachshunds, locals and visitors alike!
Saturday 15th April
The weekend will begin on the Saturday 15th April with visitors arriving with their dachshunds and setting up camp at various accommodation and caravan parks in the West Wimmera. For early arrivals, there’s the Lake Wallace Parkrun event at 8am on Saturday at Lake Wallace foreshore. We encourage dachshunds and their people to take part. The course is 5km around the lake and is not a race. You can walk, jog or run. There will be a prize for the first dachshund (with its human) to finish!

Three Beans Coffee & Catering will be on site Saturday at Henley Park for a coffee fix before or after Lake Wallace parkrun. There is plenty to do Saturday with places such as the Dachshund Museum, Edenhope Courthouse, Edenhope Antiques, Edenhope Opp Shop, coffee shops open. If you care for a short drive visit nearby Harrow or Apsley for lunch.

Saturday evening there is a PJ party and dinner with the dackels (dachshunds) from 6pm at Edenhope’s Lake Wallace Hotel (out the back of hotel).
Sunday 16 April
Sunday is D-day, literally! Dachshund MECA in the West Wimmera!
The venue, Henley Park (Lake Wallace foreshore) will be open from around 9am Sunday with dachshunds being registered for the races from 8.30am.

There will be a market with a mix of dog and human merchandise to browse and purchase. Cafe de Kerb coffee van will be on site Sunday.  Welcome, thank-yous and introductions will be at 10am followed by some fun dog events such as Smartest on Parade, Golden Oldies and Fancy Dress (other classes TBC).
Local music talent duo Elke & Tom Boston will play at intervals throughout Sunday. Elke’s 13 year old niece Ava Duguid from Bairnsdale will also sing and Harry Bestwick (Ole Grumpy) from Orange NSW will perform some witty bush poetry.
This year we will see the inaugural Dackel Dash where dachshunds will run the 25 - 30 metre track in heats and then a final to determine the winner of our first dachshund race! Not only is there the Dackel Dash, there will be an open breeds race (non dachshund) and then the Inaugural Edenhope and District Bendigo Bank - Dackel Dash final for the heat winners. There will be a non-dachshund race for dogs under 30cm at the shoulder / wither proudly sponsored by Doggo Detail from Kaniva.

After the races there will be trophy presentation, then visitors and their dogs have the chance to relax, socialise and enjoy the music.
